Cutting Image Histology (CIH) LLC provides high quality histology, immunohistochemistry, and histopatholology services to the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, and academic research communities. Located in Ann Arbor Michigan, CIH is privately owned and operated by Wendy Rosebury-Smith and Theresa Cody.  With more than 50 years of combined diverse experiences in both drug discovery and safety assessment (GLP) environments, CIH is committed to meeting the specialized needs of today’s researchers in the most efficient and cost-effective manner.  

CIH has extensive experience with preclinical models of cardiovascular diseases including animal model development and validation, experimental designs, and histologic endpoints. Wendy and Theresa have formed a strategic partnership with Dr. Robert Sigler, a veterinarian pathologist (DVM, Dipl. ACVP) with more than 20 years of experience with toxicological studies of small and macromolecules in development as well as preclinical discovery. Wendy Rosebury-Smith, A.A.S., HT (ASCP)

       President and Co-Founder, Cutting Image Histology

            Wendy has 25 years of experience in the field of histotechnology with 21 years specifically in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to co-founding Cutting Image Histology inWendy Rosebury-Smith, President and Co-Founder, Cutting Image Histology 2007, Wendy was a Senior Scientist within the Cardiovascular / Atheroslcerosis drug discovery department at the Pfizer Ann Arbor Laboratories where she instituted and managed a histology / immunohistochemistry core team that simultaneously impacted the drug discovery of multiple cardiovascular/ atherosclerosis project teams. During her 14 years in drug discovery, Wendy operated in multi-functional role, through her primary role in histotechnology, managing models of atherosclerosis, and quantitating histologic endpoints through image analysis.  Prior to drug discovery, Wendy worked for 7 years within the Parke-Davis Safety Sciences department where she developed proficiency in histology, immunohistochemistry, and multi-species necropsy within a GLP environment. Wendy graduated from the Histology Program at the Capital Area Career Center in 1983, received her HT (ASCP) certification in 1988, and obtained her A.A.S. degree with Summa Cum Laude honors from Baker College in 2008. She is currently attending Siena Heights University for a B.A.S. in Allied Health.

Theresa Cody, A.S., HT (ASCP), QIHC

       Vice-President and Co-Founder, Cutting Image Histology

            Theresa’s professional histological expertise spans twenty-seven years. She has worked twenty-one years as a research scientist in the pharmaceutical industry and her specialty’s helped to support Pathology and Experimental Toxicology, Drug Safety and Theresa Cody, Vice-President, Cutting Image HistologyDevelopment and many Discovery areas within Warner-Lambert/ Parke-Davis and Pfizer Ann Arbor Michigan laboratories. Theresa has gained considerable knowledge and proficiency in GLP procedures helping to define confidence in safety in compound-related drugs for Safety Science and Discovery Science projects. Theresa’s specialized histology skills include multiple species in necropsy,  frozen and bone processing and methodologies, tissue microarray construction and sectioning, and immunohistochemistry to include methods development. Theresa’s professional affiliations comprise of: American Society of Clinical Pathology, National Society of Histotechnology, and the Michigan Society of Histotechnology.

Dr. Robert Sigler,  DVM, Ph.D., Dipl. ACVP

      Veterinary Pathologist and IND Services

           Dr. Robert Sigler, Founder, Vet Pathology and IND Services, has 22 years experience as a drug development pathologist and study director at Parke-Davis, Pfizer and Esperion Therapeutics. After receiving his DVM from Michigan State University he obtained ACVP board-certification after finishing his  residency at University of Tennessee College of Vet Medicine and his Ph.D. in Pathology from the University of Maryland Medical School. He has experience in large pharma as well as start-ups and small companies, serving as pathologist and study director in numberous GLP safety studies and investigational, discovery and development projects for drug candidates. He has co-authored several IND applications as well as safety assessments and FDA briefing documents. He performed extensive work supporting the safety package for  Lipitor and Neurontin,  marketed by Parke-Davis and Pfizer. He  was Director of Pathology (Esperion Therapeutics, Inc, a company acquired by Pfizer. He was former Head of Pathology and Toxicology for Avidimer Therapeutics Inc. developing nanoparticles for targeted cancer and rheumatoid arthritis therapy.

           Dr. Sigler is currently a consulting pathologist, collaborating with cancer investigators at Van Andel Research Institute and Jobst Vascular Laboratory at the University of Michigan, working on animal models of  thrombosis and endothelial injury. He is a consulting pathologist for WuXi Apptec and CanBioPharma is teamed with Cutting Image Histology to provide extensive histopathology and consulting services for research investigators and companies engaged in drug discovery and development.
